Vice President Mike Pence spoke of teleconference discussions with state and local officials and America’s top doctors. He and the president will be meeting again with the nation’s governors later today from FEMA on having that agency take a strong lead in response. Testing is now available in all 50 states, he said, because of the public-private leadership, and tens of thousands of tests are being made every day. All test results will be provided to the CDC by law for important measuring and evaluations.
Health care workers are now receiving masks being manufactured by American industry, all of whom will be having liability protection, and they are being donated to hospitals. Health care providers and suppliers are finding ventilators that can readily be converted for use. 3M is vastly increasing manufacture of masks, and Honeywell has repurposed a facility for ventilator manufacture. The vice president reinforced the CDC 15-day guidelines. These will protect the most vulnerable among us, he said.
Dr. Deborah Birx reported on the new data and the increased positives from testing. Those with mild symptoms are self-isolating, and around ten percent are being hospitalized. Tests also revel that 10 percent of those tested actually have the coronavirus.
Surgeon General Adams discussed the need for blood donations. “One donation can save up to three lives,” he said. He reminded Americans that donation is safe, and social distancing is being practiced at donation centers.
